چکیده
The restoration of the four northern windows 13th century Sainte-Chapelle in Paris from 2011 to 2014 has offered a unique opportunity investigate chemical composition and color medieval glasses. This impressive corpus, covering total surface 660 m2, was created record time few years. glasses ten selected panels were analyzed using non-destructive non-invasive techniques, with specific consideration for Ion beam analyses performed at New AGLAE facility enabled revealing that all ancient are “potash” type made plant ashes, likely beech, agreement previous results on off-site panels. multivariate analysis major minor elements demonstrates presence compositional clusters small variability suggesting identification bundles coloration measured by optical absorption spectroscopy, mobile spectrophotometer over entire UV–visible-NIR energy range. palette is six colors assigned typical recipes. chromophores different identified combining composition, spectroscopy colorimetry. Colorless, yellow purple arise subtle redox equilibrium between manganese iron. Their reduced usage shows their uncertain production. Blue colored Co2+ saffre contemporary German mines, green Cu2+ Fe3+ high concentrations copper red striated glass metallic nano-particles. Glass matrix form clusters, which spread among glazing these run simultaneously same atelier supply glass.

متن کاملCorrecting image defects of stained glass windows
The main problem of photographing stained glass windows is setting the correct exposure. An overall average exposure setting frequently results in the highlight areas being overexposed, or dark area being under-exposed, or both. It is therefore necessary to provide a suitable set of image processing tools to correct the image defects. In this work describe several algorithms to solve this probl...
متن کاملAuthenticity screening of stained glass windows using optical spectroscopy
Civilized societies should safeguard their heritage as it plays an important role in community building. Moreover, past technologies often inspire new technology. Authenticity is besides conservation and restoration a key aspect in preserving our past, for example in museums when exposing showpieces. The classification of being authentic relies on an interdisciplinary approach integrating art h...
متن کاملShadow removal from image of stained glass windows
Shadows may be formed on stained glass windows by structural bars supporting the leaded panels, or by external protective wire grilles, or by masonry, such as mullions or buttresses, or external objects, such as trees. The eye tends to ‘‘discount’’ such shadow formations when viewing the actual windows even though in the photographic images they are very clearly visible. This article introduces...
